Chapter 15: Distrust - by Ben

Part 1/2

By now, a lot of them had went off to do their own thing. Arianna was off to take a beauty nap, and all of Samuel’s allies were still in their rooms (probably catching up on sleep). But now was not the time for rest. Not yet. At least, not yet for Samuel.

“Ah, I see,” Samuel thought as he stared at Queen Syl. She seemed distracted and was staring off into space, “Is she hiding something from us?”

Samuel looked on at the new groups. It was still very strange to him that animals and humans could converse with one another, but he was slowly starting to get used to it. A Gigantopithecus was throwing handfuls of berries in his mouth, and a Terror Bird was sitting on the ground, giving everyone irritated looks. A pink Squirrel was looking back and forth, bouncing like a hyperactive kid. The five adult humans, Andrew, Sylas, Erica, Freya, and Dr. Yang were taking in the sights, and one had a futuristic bow strapped to his back. They looked like they came from completely different time periods.

“There’s a variety of different people, most likely from different time periods,” Samuel realized. His eyes darted to the family that carried the medallions, “But do they come from my world?”

The man Aragorn was staring keenly at Queen Syl. Samuel eyed Aragorn’s medallion carefully.

“As more and more people come to the mansion, more and more distrust will build up. I need to ensure me and my group stay as trustworthy as possible…”

Aragorn’s medallion began to glow for a quick second, and then it stopped. Samuel’s eyes widened. Could it be…?

“Just like the implants,” Samuel realized, “Could their medallions work the same way our implants do?”

Samuel stepped over to Aragorn, and lightly tapped him on the arm. Aragorn glanced over at Samuel with a distrustful, cold sneer.

“What?” Aragorn asked with crossed arms.

“I think we should have a talk… About these people,” Samuel replied, staring directly at Queen Syl. Aragorn let out a huff. He was a lot taller than Samuel, so even though they were both adults it was like talking to Samuel’s father. Aragorn looked down upon him, analyzed him, and then crossed his arms.

“Fine. Let’s go someplace private then.”

Queen Syl began to sweat as Aragorn and Samuel left the room, and she began to squirm in her spot.

“What are they doing??” Sylveevee asked. She quickly ran into the shadows, and then a Meganeura emerged. The magenta-colored Meganeura buzzed and quickly followed Aragorn and Samuel.

“You seem to know something about that Queen Sylveevee,” Samuel said.

“Oh Princess Purple?”

There was a buzzing noise from behind them. The two quickly turned around, but there was nothing there. The two went back to walking down the large hallway.

“Maybe, maybe not, why should I tell YOU though?”

“Isn’t it obvious? I’m trying to find my way back home… This place is great and all, but I’d rather be back in Star City. Don’t you want to go back to wherever you’ve come from too?”

Aragorn seemed to pause to ponder. He seemed to be thinking of someone.
