Chapter 15: Distrust - by Ben

Part 2/2

“I-I do.”

“We can work together. Obviously the others shouldn’t be trusted. I think my ally Aurora thinks so too. Your family not so much, but they don’t know any better right?”

“Right.”

“So, go on and tell me what you know of Syl.”

Aragorn sighed, and rubbed his fingers with his thumb.

“She can transform into other creatures, I just know it. I’m not sure how, but, she can. I saw a magenta Meganeura flying above me when the new guests came. It can’t be a coincidence, magenta Meganeura’s can’t even be found in the wild. And I highly doubt a bug like that would have gotten in all the way up here.”

“Hmm, so that lady can transform into other creatures?” Samuel asked. He thought to himself, “Interesting. If that’s the case, I might want to be on her good side.”

“After all, I already know she is following the two of us.”

“While it is odd she’d hide that from us, I wouldn’t put it on her. She is just as distrustful as us as we are of her,” Samuel said aloud to Aragorn. Aragorn let out a “hmm”.

“So what should we do about her? She could be dangerous if she can transform into ANY other creature. We don’t want to take that risk.”

“That is true. But I do not think she would use her power maliciously. She seems like a kind-hearted person who wants good. I think we should be more welcoming to her.”

Aragorn seemed to look at Samuel a bit longer, as if he couldn’t believe the words he was saying, before finally sighing and nodding in affirmation.

“Fine… But I’m not going to get all goody with Princess Purple.”

Just then, a shrill, yet muffled scream came from above. Samuel and Aragorn looked up, and Aragorn’s eyes widened.

“Arianna?”

The squawk of a Dodo bird echoed in the air, and then the cackle of an evil bat.

“That bat!” Samuel realized, clenching his fist.

The two quickly rushed up the stairs and barged into one of the rooms. It was the modernized bedroom that belonged to Samuel. It was filled with vibrant colors and paintings, and had a large bed to the side… that was filled with rope. Huddled up against the wall were Arianna, Neddy, and Aurora. They were tied up in some rope. Standing in the center of the room was Drain, and he was holding Star in his talons. Star was trying to kick and bite at Drain, and Drain tossed Star to the side.

“Out of the way, I don’t want your blood… I want HUMAN blood! I want a sip before I get the others… No, I NEED a sip!”

Aragorn was absolutely stunned, but he quickly clenched his fists and glared at Drain. Samuel’s eyes quickly darted around the room, and he spotted a small glass bottle conveniently ready for throwing. Samuel grabbed it and tossed it like a baseball at the Desmodus. It hit him right in the head, and he let out a cry of pain. A glass shard was embedded on the side of his head now. He snarled and turned to face Aragorn and Samuel.

“You better step away from them. Or I’m going to kill you,” Samuel calmly said. Although as he spotted Star seething on the ground, he felt his heart pump a little faster.

“What he said is wrong. We are going to kill you,” Aragorn declared.

“Oh really… is that so?” Drain licked his lips as he spotted Aragorn, “You again, this will be fun! And there’s only two of you? That just makes things easier for me.”

Drain pointed his wing at the two, and ushered at the two of them.

“Come at me then!”
